2025 Latinx Mental Health & Social Justice Symposium

Belonging Without Borders: Psychological Home, Immigrant Identity, and Decolonial Healing in Clinical Practice
Presenter: Nadia K. Thalji, Ph.D.

Dr. Nadia Thalji’s presentation, Belonging Without Borders, explores the lived experience of immigration through the lens of psychological home, liminality, and cultural identity. Drawing from indigenous psychology, intergenerational trauma research, and decolonial frameworks, she examines how clinicians can cultivate therapeutic spaces that honor complexity, restore agency, and support healing across borders—internal and external.

Dr. Thalji actively contributes to global conferences and publications, engaging contemporary questions at the intersection of psyche, culture, and social change—including the evolving impact of artificial intelligence on human experience. Guided by a deep commitment to social justice and cultural sensitivity, she fosters inclusive spaces where communities can heal, learn, and transform.

Outside of her clinical and academic work, she enjoys singing, dancing, writing, spending time in nature, and integrating artistic expression as a form of soulful engagement.
